I guess I had forgotten how powerful the story of Amir and Hassan is. We finally met Sohrab, and he was so cute! I felt so bad for him when I saw him dancing for Amir and Assef. A
ssef was just disgusting. I was glad that Sohrab was able to take a slingshot at him, so he and Amir could run away.
I was supposed to write about the theme I chose in my double entry journal, and compare it with the same part in the movie, and at first I chose what Rahim Khan said to Amir. However, I changed my mind after seeing the movie. I want to write about relationship and the quote:
"For you a thousand times over..."
To start with I thought it was the most powerful sentence in the book because it reflected the relationship between Amir and Hassan. And even though I know the end of the book als
o ended with the same quote, I didn't feel the same about the quote at the end of the book. Seeing the movie, made me realize how this quote also reflects on the relationship between Amir and Sohrab, and proves to us that Amir has changed and finally wants to take responsibility for his actions and his earlier mistakes. Suddenly, "For you a thousand times over" has a new meaning. It shows the true love that Amir has for Sohrab, and with that we know that Amir really did love Hassan. He just didn't know how to act right…
After seeing the movie I must say I liked it. It was cool (and a bit corny) that the author Khaled Hosseini had a small role at the end of the movie. However, I thought it was disappointing that they didn't show different scenes such as when Sohrab tried to kill himself because if I hadn't read the book, I wouldn't know the full story, and the movie wouldn't stick to me like the book. But if I had to grade the movie on a scale of 1-6, I would say it deserved a 5.
Glad you liked the movie. I did too. But then there will always be parts missing in the movie that you think belong. I was also a little disappointed in the way they portrayed the end since it was a struggle to get Sohrab home. But you just can't put everything from the book into the movie, it would just take too much time.
