Erin Brockovich

Before I started this English class, the class saw a movie called Erin Brockovich. Luckily for me, I have the movie, so Friday night I desided to watch it.

I'm actually a big fan of Julia Roberts, who has the lead part in this movie. Erin Brockovich is about a woman with three children, Erin. She has no education, but manages to get a job at a law firm. After working there for about a week, she gets fired for not showing up at work. What her boss doesn't know is that she has actually started investigating a huge case and finds out that a company named PG&E is responsible for the poisoning of the water in the town of Hinkley, and later covering it up. People from the town are suffering from different illnesses such as cancer, and people are dying. Later, her boss Ed learns that Erin was actually working during that week, and they start collaborating to sue PG&E. Despite the fact that Erin doesn't have an education, they win the case and PG&E are forsed to pay a settlement amount of $333 million that was divided amont 634 families. The movie is based on a true story.

What is interesting with this movie is Erin's personality. She is a strong woman who is a loving mother, and in order to support her children financially, she was brave enough to get a job at a law firm even thoug she had no education. Most people would have given up when they came to a place where everyone were judging them for their clothes and lack of education, but I guess most people don't get a movie made after them. Erin seems to really care about the people she is helping in Hinkley, and this makes the people trust her. She doesn't need to write on paper in order to remember all her clients. Actually, she knows their names, adresses, numbers and illnesses by heart. This also contribudes to the lawyers at the law firm to gain some sort of respect for her even though she isn't a lawyer. Her personality is very strong, and funny, and she has a response to every comment. She knows what she wants and what she needs, and isn't afraid to tell people. Pluss she never gives up. All of this makes us love Erin. Good movie.

  1. Nice commentary about the movie. It was lucky that you had it at home since you missed it at school. Well written, I agree, she was an exceptional person!
